London

Last month I bought tickets to go to London and Paris with my boyfriend and my family! I love traveling and have gone many places domestically but I have never been out of the country. I finally got a passport last year and have been dying to use it so I finally was able to go through with it. I was surprised to learn how reasonably priced tickets were to Europe considering it is almost a 12 hour journey nonstop. We are planning to take a train from London to Paris which will be a really cool experience, plus we get to explore two amazing cities in one trip. I was super bummed when I found out a few weeks ago that the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris had been burned down because it was something I really wanted to check out. The church was an amazing piece of art and architecture and I was shocked to learn that it was over 800 years old. College Search

This past weekend, I went with my mom and my little sister to visit a college up in California. She became interested in this school after being recruited by the coach of the women's soccer team so we decided to go up and do a tour. My little sister is only a freshman in high school which is why I thought it was a little premature to be doing a college tour but I wanted to be with them to support them. The coach had offered her a full ride to this Division 1 school and has encouraged her to make a verbal commitment if she wants to go there. The reason for the unofficial visit was to see if she actually likes the school so she can see if she wants to continue talking to the coach and pursuing the opportunity to go there. I think it is crazy that coaches are pursing freshman in high school because they are so young and are still developing and maturing as players. I didn't know where I wanted to go until the week before national signing day and definitely wasn't even thinking...

House of Cards

I started watching a series on netflix called House of Cards and so far it has been very intriguing. This show popped up on my recommended shows because I watched Scandal, which is similar because they are both shows about the government. Lately I have been really into politics which is why I got into these shows and drama is my favorite genre to watch. Most shows about politics and the one I am watching right now is all about corruption within the government. It is interesting to me because when I watch these shows, I can't help but think what if our government is really like this? It's a scary thought and most of us may never know but it's crazy to think about as I watch these shows. I just started this show and there are six seasons so it's going to take me a really long time to get through it but so far, there has been a lot going on and I am starting to get hooked on to it. Maid of Honor

Last weekend, my sister got married!! It was such a beautiful wedding that took place at my grandmas beach house in Punaluu. There was so much anticipation and planning that took place before the wedding and I was blessed to take on the role of maid of honor. The whole week was filled with craziness as I planned for her bridal shower and the main event. My sisters new hubby is mexican, so to incorporate his culture we did mexican food for the wedding. He is also gluten free because he has celiac's disease so everything we made for the wedding was ALL gluten free. I made all the cupcakes for the desserts and recruited some of my aunties which ended up being an all day job for us. It was my first time making gluten free cupcakes and it was not easy. We ended up doing five different batches of cupcakes before finally finding a good recipe that we could use. The first batch was made with water and it was very grainy. The second batch was made with milk which still tasted really grain...

Pho Real

I went to this Pho place yesterday called, "Pho Real", which I thought was really delicious. The name is extremely catchy and quite comical, which is what caught my eye to go there in the first place. I got pho with shrimp and dumplings in chicken broth and I loved it. I enjoy all the different sauces I can add to it because it adds a lot of flavor and I can make it as hot as I want it. I also really enjoy hot foods and love jalapenos so I love that it comes with them. Sometimes when I go to Pho places, I struggle because I don't know what a lot of these foods are because it is in another language. The thing I loved about this place was that there were pictures next to the foods so I could actually understand and see what I would be ordering. There are so many Pho places in the area so it is very competitive but I think what made this place that I went to stand out was the name of it, all the different sauces they had, and I the menu was easy to read.

The Snickerbar

Yesterday at work I tried a new drink called the Snickerbar. If you don't like the candy then you would definitely not like this drink because it tastes just like the candy itself but better! I personally love chocolate candies and love coffee so a mixture of them both really sets it off the top for me. The drink includes a mixture of hazelnut, macadamia nut, and caramel sauce with a milk base, chocolate powder and espresso. It is also topped with caramel and chocolate drizzles and it tasted amazing. Although I thoroughly enjoyed it, I couldn't drink it everyday because I know what goes in it and how unhealthy it is. Now that I know what goes into flavored coffee drinks, I am a lot more conscious about what to get but I love to treat myself once in a while.

New Job as a Barista

I recently got a job at a coffee shop and I didn't realize how much there is to learn as a barista. This is my first time working at a coffee shop so I've been trying to learn the drinks and get to know what is on our menu. I found out that we have over 50 different flavors of syrups, which displays how many options for drinks there are to choose from. I am starting to learn the measurements for the drinks so I can eventually be able to make the drinks without referring to the cheat sheets. I have also learned that there are a lot of regular customers who always get the same things and I will eventually have to learn what they like.
